TRIATHLON FAQs

What gear will I need to do a triathlon?

  • Running shoes.
  • A bicycle with two wheels – can be a mountain bike, hybrid, 3 speed, no speed or a racing bike : whatever you have available.
  • A bike helmet.
  • Swimsuit, swim cap and goggles.
  • Wetsuit optional depending on water temperature.
  • Clothing to bike and run in.
  • A good sense of humor.

What kind of shape do I need to be in?

You do not need to be an athlete ! You need to have the willingness to train 5 days interspersed with 2 rest days (rest is as important as training!) during each week of the training session period.

What if I can’t swim well?

We are allowed to swim any stroke during the triathlon. If you can do breastroke, no problem. We will work on stroke technique during the training sessions.

Do I need a wetsuit?

Pasadena Triathlon – no as its in a pool.
All other triathlons included in these training sessions – at your option except in the case the water temp is over 84 degrees then no wetsuit.

Why would I wear a wetsuit?

A wetsuit will provide you with buoyancy - which helps keep your body in a better swimming position, and warmth. It’s a nice safe and secure feeling! There are possibilities of renting wetsuits if you do not want to invest.

What if I only have an old 3 speed bike?

You can use any bike as long as it has 2 wheels and gets you to your destination.

What if I am not a runner?

Alternating running with walking is a perfectly acceptable way to get to the finish line.
